K-9 EXPLOSIVE CERTIFICATION STANDARDS

 “TO UNITE AND ASSIST POLICE
SERVICE DOGS AND HANDLERS”

 

Section 1:             TYPES OF EXPLOSIVES TO BE USED FOR CERTIFICATION

INCLUDES WHATEVER EXPLOSIVE MATERIAL THE CANINE IS TRAINED TO DETECT.

 

SECTION  2:            ALERTS

EACH HANDLER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR NOTIFYING THE EXAMINER OF HIS CANINE’S TYPE OF ALERT.

 

SECTION 3:             TIME LIMIT

IT WILL BE THE EXAMINER’S DECISION AS TO WHEN THE SEARCH SHALL BE TERMINATED.

 

SECTION 4:

 

I:                     INTERIOR BUILDING

The building search shall be interior in nature and shall be realistic to a search setting.  If more than one explosive odor is being used, areas shall be at least 25 feet apart.

II:                    EXTERIOR VEHICLE

The vehicle search shall be exterior in nature with one hide per vehicle, one blank vehicle but they shall be at least 25 feet apart.

III:                  PARCELS

For this exercise envelopes, boxes, luggage, packages, etc. shall be placed in a row at least 5 feet apart.  One hide per exercise shall be used.

IV:                   Each of the three exercises shall be at least once during the    

Certification.  Any and all of the exercises may be repeated as necessary on each odor.

V:                    If a female is in season and attempting to certify, she shall

Work last after all other teams have completed their exercises.

VI:                   FAILURE OF CERTIFICATION

                                    There will be a thirty (30) day waiting period to attempt to again.

VII:                  RULING OF CERTIFYING OFFICIALS

                                    All rulings of the certifying officials are final.

VIII:                 FEES FOR CERTIFICATION

The fee for certification is twenty-five ($25.00) dollars for each single purpose team attempting to certify, thirty-five ($35.00) for each dual purpose team attempting to certify.
